Where to find more information sources

How to avoid animated characters to appear
 
 > If you deactivate WinRSS speaking animated characters, you will also be deactivating them for all Brindys Software applications. To get rid of them, right-click the bulb icon (at the tray bar) next to the Windows' clock, select Options button, and finally click "Uninstall characters".
 
 > If your computer does not show that bulb icon, right-click the WinRSS icon at the tray bar, select "Options" option, and select "Uninstall characters".
 
 > If you cannot find the "Uninstall characters" option (usually because a character is on screen in that moment), first select "Fire character", and afterwards the "Uninstall characters" option will be available.
 
 > If the character still remains on screen, you can fire it closing the bulb or the WinRSS icon.

How to make animated characters to read news in your language(s)
 
 > Click the bulb icon next to Windows' clock (tray bar), click Options button and select "Install characters".
 
 > If your computer does not show that bulb icon, right-click the WinRSS icon at the tray bar, select "Options" option, and select "Install characters".
 
 > If your characters do not speak some specific language, do not appear on screen, or you cannot find the "Install characters" option, visit the animated characters website and install the software available there.

Tricks

How to easily add feeds
 
 > Use the following bookmarklet, which allows to autodetect and autosubscribe to feeds available in the websites you visit. To install it, drag the Subscribe! link below to your browser bookmarks bar. A new link will be created (called Subscribe!).

 > The next time you visit a website with syndicable feed contents, click the new button at your bookmarks bar (called Subscribe!) and WinRSS will try to autodetect the available feed.

Problems

WinRSS icon or the news list window never appear
 
 > The BriTray component has been uninstalled or deleted. Click Start, All Programs, WinRSS, Start WinRSS.

Notifications window does not show new news items
 
 > Double-click the Windows clock icon (lower right corner of the screen) and update date and time of your computer. If the problem persists more days, contact your computer's technical support service to replace your clock's batteries.

All feeds are always empty, without news items
 
 > WinRSS did not detect your internet connection. If your connection is always online, select Permanent internet connection at the Options menu.
 
 > You were online not enough time. Wait for some hours or contact us to check the problem.
 
 > WinRSS has not been running, probably BriTray process was stopped. If you cannot see the BriTray icon, start WinRSS from your Windows Start menu, and BriTray will be started again.

How to add more feeds, using Mozilla web browser
 
 > Whenever you find an XML icon (like this one ) or a link like "Syndicate this site (XML)", just right-click over the link, select Copy Link Location option. Afterwards, start WinRSS, and at the bottom of the channels list, at the field marked with "To add a known feed..." right-click and select Paste (or click the field and click Control+V) and afterwards press Enter.

How to show WinRSS news into GEDEX [Spanish]

How to maintain WinRSS news always visible at the desktop
 
 > You can create an ActiveDesktop window:
- At the Windows desktop, right-click an empty space and select Active Desktop / New desktop element... and under Location or Address write the following: C:\Program files\Brindys Software\WinRSS\RSS\Index.html
- The WinRSS news listing will be presented.
- If using WinRSS in a local area network, you can share that file and perform those instructions on other computers. That way, only a "server" computer needs to have WinRSS installed.

How to access WinRSS news from computers where WinRSS is not installed
 
 > The computer must be connected to the same network (and same domain or workgroup) as the WinRSS "server". Follow these instructions:
- At the server, open folder C:\Program files\Brindys Software\WinRSS\RSS\
- Share the RSS folder with an arbitrary name (recommended RSS)
- Now at the client computer (has no WinRSS installed), at the Windows desktop right-click an empty space and select Active Desktop / New desktop element... and under Location or address write the following: \\server\rss\index.html (instead of server enter the real name of your server).
- The WinRSS server news listing will be presented.
