GEDEX - User's Manual

Personal Password for GEDEX access

GEDEX can be configured by administrators to ask for Personal Passwords to each user.

This is an optional feature, that allows access limiting to unauthorized personell.

It is up to the administrator to decide if each member of your office must use a Personal Password to enter GEDEX. GEDEX also allows creating "impersonal" users (or members groups) that will be treated as a generic user, for instance, a group of administrative users. In such groups, the personal password is the same for all members of the group.

If you do not know your personal password, please follow one of these steps:

 > If you are not a GEDEX administrator, contact your staff to get a personal password. Meanwhile, browse this manual and start learning GEDEX.

 > If you are an administrator, click Use other methodsEnter as Administrator (in old versions click Cancel) and enter the Master Password when GEDEX requests it. Once into GEDEX, modify the user cards of all the users which have lost their personal passwords (for instance, your own user card).

 > Create a user card for each member of your firm.
To do so, open menu Configuration → Users → Show users listing. All current users will be shown in the listing. One of the users has the text "<< You" stating who started the GEDEX session. Do not worry by now if you are not the user with that text.

 > To add a new user, click the "Add contact" button the 'Add contact' button and a new user card will be created (same as the cards used for your customers). Enter the user's name and click the button with a red house to configure this GEDEX user. Once configured, close the card and repeat the creation (Add contact 'Add contact' button) with the rest of your firm's members.

 > Create impersonal cards (members groups) like "Administratives". That way, assigning the "Administratives" user to one matter, all your administratives will have access to that matter.

 > Once all the users have been created, exit GEDEX and enter again.

 > If the Distinguish users based on local network option was selected, it will be necessary to enter GEDEX once for each user, for instance from each member's computer or network session (close Windows session and starting with a different username). On each GEDEX session, open the corresponding user card (click Configuration → Show user's listing, and open the user's card or create it). Enter the user's name and click the button with a red house to configure this GEDEX user, and close the card. When GEDEX asks if "Are you XXXX? (being XXXX this user's name)" answer Yes.

 > If you selected the Distinguish users based on passwords option, assign a personal password for each user. To do so, open each user card (click Configuration → Show user's listing, and open the user's card or create it), and click the button with a red house to configure this GEDEX user, and close the card.
